Your Tribe & The Company You Keep

Spread the love

Some wonder if phrases about associations are true and I would dare to say they are! What are the reasons behind this, you say? Even from a young age, your family can hinder or nurture your growth. First, take a look at the people in your immediate circle and think about the influences they have or have had on you. Can you think of one person that always seems to have a positive vibe about them? How does that person make you feel? Now think about a person that tends to complain a lot… about everything. How do you feel after spending time with them? The company we keep will not only impact how we approach our day but they can transfer energy to you unknowingly. If you don’t believe me, pay attention to how “charged or drained” you feel after spending time with someone. You don’t have to avoid or increase your time in their company but pay attention and guard yourself.

In addition, the company you keep can have an impact on your success. If you are the only person with goals and ambitions with your music, then everyone around you is either waiting to ride your cloud up or will be working on other clouds in other directions. There is nothing more powerful than being in a group where all the members have a synergy. Think about any sports team that has an undefeated season. That team works like one big well-oiled machine with each person showing up and giving 110%. If it is true in sports, why wouldn’t be true in business? In business success and failures happen in part, because of referrals and business partnerships or networks. If you are a painter and you do great work for a person, that person is going to refer you to another person. Pretty soon you will not have to advertise your business because your word-of-mouth network will support you and help you continue to get work.

This is a reality in the business of music too. Most individuals who want to become the next best singer, producer, or songwriter do not realize the conversations happening in closed-door sessions with a select group of trusted individuals. The trick is connecting with as many people as you can and make certain you have quality music to share. The business is, at the highest level, all about a trusted network. If you ask anyone that has made any significant money in the music industry, most will tell you they were helped by their network.

You need to surround yourself with at least a few people who are on the way to your destination so they can share their knowledge and network with you. Remember, the music business is a business, and no business can function alone. Start spending a little face time with others riding a similar cloud to the top.
